Winter Songs

Enjoy sharing these winter songs and verses.

Gift your child with the sound of your voice - whether you feel like you can carry a tune or not. For some of these, we demonstrate possible movements to do with them. Use these movements if you like - or make up your own. Use the melodies we share or make up your own - or just say the words. These little songs and verses are an invitation to engage in loving connection with your child. They help to develop the child’s senses, especially the senses of hearing, touch, movement, and balance. They also help children to connect with the world around them - with nature, the cycles of the year - and with you!

"Brrrr, it’s cold!" - A verse for cold days

This sweet little verse can be used as a touching game. Loving touch is so important for healthy development - as is this playful use of language you’ll find here. If your little one feels cold, you can say this as you rub him and warm him up. You can also use this as a little game you each do for yourselves. Either way, you’ll feel warm and cozy when you’re done.

Brrr it's cold!

In the Winter Garden song

Experiencing the cycle of the seasons is grounding and lovely for child and parent, alike. Sing this song as you go outside on a wintry day - or night. Or you can sing holding hands and walking in a circle or around your room on an imaginary winter adventure. This song could also be used as a lullaby if sung softly and slowly. This song has different versions for each season - so as the seasons turn, I’ll share the other versions.

Make a Snowman Verse

Building a snowman is so much fun! Children love playing in the snow. Here’s a little verse you can use to build an imaginary snowman. If you’re putting together a circle, this verse goes well with the following “I’m a little snowman” song.

Snowflakes so white

This sweet snow song was written as a hand game. It’s from the book Gesture Games for Autumn and Winter by Wilma Ellersiek. It’s a lovely gentle song to sing when the snowflakes are falling-or when you wish they were.
